AIM Institute Bestows Technology Awards at 2008 Technology Celebration Banquet

Omaha, Neb. – Four Nebraska technology professionals and a local technology company were recognized for their contributions to Nebraska's technology industry at the AIM Institute’s Technology Celebration Banquet and Awards, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Hilton Omaha.  As the only local event that focuses on this critical growth industry for Nebraska, the AIM Banquet provides an opportunity to recognize some of the best local and regional success stories in information technology. 

Recipients of this year’s Technology Celebration awards are:
K-12 Technology Educator of the Year:           
Craig McGee, Principal, Florence Elementary School - Omaha Public Schools

Technology Professor of the Year:                  
Dr. Hesham H. Ali, Professor of Computer Science, Dean of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Information Science and Technology at the Peter Kiewit Institute
                       
Technology Guru of the Year:
Chris Cox, Network Administrator – The University of Nebraska’s Peter Kiewit Institute
                                                                       
Technology Chief of the Year: 
Jim Hanson, Chief Information Officer – Mutual of Omaha                      

Technology Company of the Year:
Pinpoint Network Solutions – Omaha, Nebraska

Outstanding Community Service in Technology
Brenda L. Decker, Chief Information Officer, State of Nebraska
                                             
The award recipients were selected based on their contributions, either through sustained performance or a special notable achievement, to Nebraska's worldwide reputation for excellence and innovation in information technology. Two students serving internships with local businesses were also recognized.  They were:

College Technology Intern of the Year:
Jose Martinez, Kearney - University of Nebraska at Kearney

High School Technology Intern of the Year:
Jonathan Wolfe, Columbus – Columbus Public Schools

As part of the AIM Institute’s AIM Achiever Scholarship program, the Dr. Robert and Donna Sweeney AIM Achiever Scholarship was awarded to Elena Hernandez, an 8th grader at Wilson Junior High School in Council Bluffs.

A special scholarship was also awarded in memorial to AIM long-time employee, Scott Pettit.

The Scott Pettit Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Michael Patterson, currently an IT Intern with the AIM Institute.

The AIM Banquet also featured as guest speaker Daniel Burrus, one of the world's leading technology forecasters and business strategists. In his eye-opening presentation, Burrus took the audience to the next level by sharing valuable insights into the opportunities yet to come, preparing them to capitalize on the next wave of technological change.
